Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Charters First New Graduate Chapter in Atlanta in 41 Years

Alpha Epsilon Gamma Omega to Serve Midtown and East Atlanta with a Vision of Service, Sisterhood, and Community Impact

ATLANTA, GA — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has officially chartered a new graduate chapter in the City of Atlanta — the first new graduate chapter established in the city in 41 years — marking a historic expansion of the Sorority’s legacy of service in one of its most significant regions. The newly chartered chapter, Alpha Epsilon Gamma Omega, was officially chartered on May 3 and will serve Midtown and East Atlanta communities under the guiding vision:
“Rooted in Sisterhood, Rising with Purpose: Envisioning Atlanta’s Next Chapter.”
“The South Atlantic Region is proud to welcome this new graduate chapter, which reflects the very best of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s commitment to service and community impact,” said Tiffany Moore Russell, South Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. “Their work demonstrates what is possible when vision, leadership, and purpose align to meet the evolving needs of a dynamic city like Atlanta.” The chapter’s foundation began in 2022 through The Poised PEACHES (Pearls Empowering Action, Community Heroes and Exemplary Service) Interest Group, formed to create a sustained and visible service presence across Midtown and East Atlanta neighborhoods. Founded by five organizers — Nicole M. Adams, Melanie Key Bales, Jacqueline Baker, Charnita West Jenkins, and Leslie Purifoy — the group quickly evolved into a structured, high-impact organization rooted in service, sisterhood, and civic engagement. Recognizing Atlanta’s continued growth and the increasing need for consistent, neighborhood-centered support, the organization focused its outreach across multiple City of Atlanta Neighborhood Planning Units (NPUs), prioritizing deep community engagement, civic participation, and long-term partnerships. “What began as a vision has become a calling,” said Nicole M. Adams, President of Alpha Epsilon Gamma Omega. “We saw an opportunity — and a responsibility — to serve more intentionally in Midtown and East Atlanta. We built relationships, listened to community needs, and committed ourselves to doing the work consistently. This chartering represents not just a milestone, but a labor of love to serve in sisterhood with purpose.” Through partnerships with organizations including Intown Cares, Nicholas House, East Lake YMCA, East Lake Foundation, Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School, Benteen Elementary School, and the Atlanta History Center, members have delivered impactful programming focused on homelessness, education, food security, youth development, and community enrichment. The organization’s impact has already been substantial:
  • Mobilized 134 active members in service initiatives across Atlanta neighborhoods
  • Established a 501(c)(3) scholarship fund
  • Raised more than $55,000 in eight weeks
  • Engaged dozens of community and civic partners throughout the city
The chartering represents the natural evolution from an interest group into a fully chartered graduate chapter with the structure, continuity, and visibility to deepen its impact throughout Atlanta. “This chartering is a powerful example of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s enduring legacy of service and sisterhood in action,” said Charletta Wilson Jacks, International First Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. “As we continue to expand our reach, this new graduate chapter in Atlanta will play an important role in advancing our mission and strengthening our impact in communities that need it most.” The milestone was commemorated with a private chartering ceremony followed by a celebratory luncheon at the Georgia International Convention Center, attended by Sorority leadership, charter members, and community partners.
